
Psychreative: “Body, Gender, and Psyche: Countermythology through Jungian Arts-Based Research”, with Marieke Cahill

Cultural and individual identities are mythologies that we form as organizing principles in our societies and our lives. Yet for some of us, the dominant narratives or myths do not match our lived experiences. I will be discussing how countermythologies can function to claim our selves and our psyches through the lens of my experience as a neurodivergent and genderless artist, depth psychology scholar, and the parent of a gender expansive child.
Bio: Marieke is a transdisciplinary and multi-modal artist, author, speaker, and activist focusing on Jungian Arts-Based Research that queers Jungian theories and explores vocal archetypes. They hold a M.A. in Depth Psychology and Creativity from Pacifica Graduate Institute and are currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Depth Psychology. Marieke’s article “A Transcendent Future: A ‘Discovery’ of Nonbinary Identities” will be published in the forthcoming book Feminism and Technology, to be released by Routledge in 2023.
